Review: AdvaSoft TouchRetouch

I’ve been using TouchRetouch for about one month now and I have to say that I’ve found it to be a rather useful photo editing app when I’m away from my computer – and with version 2.0, it’s even better.

TouchRetouch allows users to remove artifacts or unwanted objects from photos using their iPhone. Using various select tools, such as lasso or pointer, users are able to easily identify and select objects to remove from their photos and TouchRetouch is smart enough to fill in the space using data from the surrounding areas.

I’ve found that the feature works rather well for a quick retouch on photos. If I take a picture on my phone and notice some trash on the ground or a small unsightly object, I can zoom in, select using one of the tools, and remove the object with no discernible after effects. If I do not like my most recent action, the app allows for undo and redo actions.

A neat feature employed by TouchRetouch is the use of demo videos. The app comes packaged with small, quick little how-tos to quickly learn the basic functions of the app. Once, I have the perfect picture, it’s easy to share to Twitter, Picasa, flickr, and Facebook from right in the app.

The app does have some limitations. Obviously, the larger the object you are trying to remove, the more distortion you’ll see and the less accurate the background image will appear. However, if you are looking for a quick fix to remove unwanted objects on the go, the 99¢ is a bargain.

The One-Sentence Verdict™

TouchRetouch is a great, inexpensive app that allows users to quickly remove small objects from photos right on their iPhone.

Pros: Easy to use, demo videos, high level of follow-though on advertized features, cheap price point.

Cons: If you are looking for serious photo editing, this app isn’t for you. But, you really shouldn’t be working on a mobile device then.
