News: At Least 300,000 iPads Sold on First Day
It may come as no surprise, but Apple sold a lot of iPads on Saturday. Not anywhere close to 700,000 as analyst Gene Munster had said, but the estimated 300,000 was on track with Apple’s expectations.
The number is comprised of pre-orders, retail sales, and shipments to channel partners. This number only includes WiFi-only models, not the yet-to-be-shipped 3G model. Still, at least $150 million (if you assumed everyone got the 16GB model) is quite a bit in one day.
iPad users also started playing with additional features quickly, according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs:
“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it’s going to be a game changer…iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”
