News: Apple Education Event Next Thursday

Hinted at last week, Apple will be holding an event in New York City on Thursday, January 19. The event will begin at 10AM Eastern and take place at the Guggenheim Museum.

As posted by The Loop, the event invitation features an Apple and the New York City skyline on a chalkboard background, along with the text, “Join us for an education announcement in the Big Apple,” which is leading many to assume the topic pertains to electronic textbooks.

The technology section in The New York Times gives additional details:

The event will showcase a new push by Apple into the digital textbook business, but will not feature any new devices, according to a person close to the company who did not want to be identified talking about it before it occurred.

We’re not expecting any new devices either—the iPad line is due for a refresh next, but Apple will probably go for a March/April introduction.
