News: Apple Releases iOS 4.3, Apple TV 4.2
A little surprising that Apple got it out the door early (March 11 was supposed to be the official launch date), iOS 4.3 is now available for all users with the following devices: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPod touch (3rd and 4th generations), iPad (both generations), and Apple TV (2nd generation). Features are pretty much on-par with what Apple has described, including leaving out support for the iPhone 3G and iPod touch (2nd generation).
Besides the various iPod/iPad/iPhone-related updates, the Apple TV got quite a bit of love in this update. Although technically marketed as 4.3, the Apple TV’s update is 4.2, but has added features such as AirPlay for videos, Netflix support for 5.1 surround sound, and MLB.tv/NBA League Pass integration. Below are some screen shots from the new Apple TV MLB.tv & NBA League Pass integration—even if you don’t subscribe to the services, you can still have live game updates:
The build is the same as the Golden Master that went out last week and includes the following changes for all users: Home Sharing streaming support, AirPlay video support, and improved JavaScript performance. Furthermore, the updates are expected to add the much-anticipated Mobile Hotspot feature on iPhone 4s, and bring the choice of what the side-switch does for iPad users.
