News: Mac App Store Just Around the Corner?
The App Store for Mac OS X—we knew it would be coming, but weren’t sure how soon. AppleTell is reporting that it may be within the week, and we’ll be able to buy “apps” for our Macs starting next Monday, December 13. This makes sense, as developers have been submitting apps for the last month.
The site claims:
An inside source has just told us that Apple is targeting a Monday, December 13th launch of the Mac App Store. The company apparently told developers to have their software prepared for a launch as early as Monday the 6th of this month, but our contact would be shocked if that happened at this point. Apple has made no official announcements regarding this, and delays could always happen, but there’s a push to be launched before Christmas, well ahead of the previously estimated January release.
Furthermore, it sounds like the push came from Steve Jobs himself to add a new source of revenue for the before-Christmas rush. Mac OS X 10.6.6 is also required for the App Store, so if these rumors are true, expect another major system update soon.
