News: Verizon iPad 2 Having Connectivity Issues

by on April 11, 2011

Although it had been discussed for awhile on message boards and Web sites, Apple has officially acknowledged and is investigating reports of connectivity issues with the iPad 2 on Verizon’s network. The issue comes from the iPad 2 not being able to reconnect when the 3G modem is turned off, requiring a reboot.

The problems seem to only affect the Verizon iPad 2 and switching Airplane Mode on and off does not restore connectivity. This also may be related to an issue where the iPad displays “Roaming,” despite Verizon being the only game in town in many places.

Apple has acknowledged the issue in a statement issued late Friday to The Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD:

Apple said on Friday that it is looking into reports that some users are having issues connecting their iPad 2 to Verizon’s network.

“We are aware that a small number of iPad 2 customers have experienced connectivity issues with the Verizon 3G network and we are investigating it,” the company said in a statement to Mobilized. A Verizon representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Right now, the only way to restore connectivity is to turn 3G data on and restart the iPad. We’re expecting this to possibly be addressed with iOS 4.3.2.
