News: Yet Another iPhone-Verizon Rumor?

by on September 22, 2010

AppleInsider reported that Jeffrey Fidacaro, Analyst with Susquehanna Financial Group, told investors on Wednesday that information indicating that Apple is preparing to ship 3 million CDMA iPhones by January 2011. This announcement yet again stokes rumors that the iPhone, currently exclusive to AT&T, may be appearing on the CDMA –capable Verizon network, once its exclusivity contract with AT&T ends (rumored December 2010).

Verizon iPhone 4This announcement adds another level to circulating rumors that the Apple smartphone maybe ready to move to the big red checkmark. Of course, rumors of such a move have been speculated upon for the last two-years, none thus far reaching fruition.

It remains to be seen if Verizon would even be able to support the iPhone on its network (i.e. overcome the inability to surf the web while on a call, or plans to upgrade to LTE). It is quite possible that CDMA iPhones could be used strictly for international sales.

Furthermore, with the amount of control Verizon has over its Android-based phones (a level that would be difficult to believe Apple would allow) and its success with Android-based phones, it’s possible that Verizon may have already decided to move-on.

Are you still awaiting a Verizon iPhone or is this just another rumor that will lead to another disappointment? Sound off in comments!
