Craig Hockenberry offers some great points on the complete redesign of iOS 7:

I think it’s useful to look at the history of Aqua while thinking about the future of iOS 7.

Some designers are saying that the new look is “over the top.” The same thing was said about Aqua over a decade ago. And in succeeding years, that original UI has continuously been refined to what we see today.

My knee-jerk reaction to iOS 7 was negative—I don’t like the inconsistencies with the Mac interface, I don’t really like the icons, and I like a little more contrast in my interface. Still, I know this is a very early beta, and I have yet to use it, so I’ll wait before making a final judgment.
