Snippet: The Chicago Sun-Times Doesn’t Need Real Photographers ☇

Shared on June 1, 2013

Robert Feder for the Chicago Sun-Times on his Facebook page confirms the changes after the newspaper laid off its photography staff (via AppleInsider):

Sun-Times reporters begin mandatory training today on “iPhone photography basics” following elimination of the paper’s entire photography staff. “In the coming days and weeks, we’ll be working with all editorial employees to train and outfit you as much as possible to produce the content we need,” managing editor Craig Newman tells staffers in a memo.

Although I know newspapers are struggling to stay profitable and keep up with the changing times, I’m not sure this is necessarily the best chance to take. I wonder if Andy Ihnatko will say anything on the matter in the near-future.
