Snippet: Facebook Home and Privacy ☇
Om Malik has the same major concern that I do about Facebook Home‐privacy:
And most importantly it is Facebook, a company that is known to have played loose-and-easy with consumer privacy and data since its very inception, asking for forgiveness whenever we caught them with its hand in the cookie jar. I don’t think we can be that forgiving or reactive with Facebook on mobile.
Think about how much data is recorded or available by your phone just being used and moved around and how even innocuous things can provide rich, demographic data for advertisers (guessing where you live, where you work, what apps you use, what Wi-Fi networks you connect to, etc.)—I don’t think I’m being too tinfoil-hat about this.
