Snippet: Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich Resigns ☇

Shared on April 3, 2014

Following up on something we covered last week, it looks like Mozilla removed its CEO after it was revealed that he made a donation in support of Proposition 8, and the resulting protests and complaints. Mitchell Baker, Mozilla’s Executive Chairwoman:

“It’s clear that Brendan cannot lead Mozilla in this setting,” said Baker, who added that she would not and could not speak for Eich. “The ability to lead—particularly for the CEO—is fundamental to the role and that is not possible here.”

This became a huge mess for Mozilla (three board members resigned over it) and it needed to be fixed—from a leadership perspective, this was the right move for the future of Mozilla, regardless of your views on gay marriage.
