Snippet: Replay of Insanely Great: The Apple Mac at 40 ☇

Shared on January 25, 2024

Following up on yesterday’s post, I watched this event by the Computer History Museum live and it was a delight. It’s now been uploaded to YouTube and is worth your time. Three fun things that stuck out for me:

  • The team was incredibly small, which feels almost unheard of today, even with small startups.
  • For the initial demo, Apple used a Mac with 512k of memory instead of 128k, although that computer wouldn’t go on sale until about eight months after the original 128k model.
  • On the topic of businesses arguing that the Mac isn’t for serious work, one of the biggest companies ever by market cap runs entirely on them (because they make them).
