Snippet: Sound on iOS 7 ☇
Dylan Seeger shares how sound plays a role in how we interact with an operating system:
And one of the things that they happened to miss is sound. The default ringtone, “Marimba”, sums this up pretty well. When I saw that Marimba was still the default ringtone in iOS 7, I realized that it represents one of many holes in the new design, and it’s a view into the past. When I hear “Marimba”, I always think back to the original iPhone announcement.
Personally, I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but I do think Apple has a history of hanging onto sounds more than many other elements—Sosumi, dating from 1991, is still included with Mac OS X.
