Snippet: USGS Digitizes Historic Maps ☇

Shared on July 17, 2012

The three-year project is almost done, and it’s going to have over 200,000 old maps—I was playing around with it and the depth of content for places I’ve lived is just amazing. Even though nobody is going to be using these for navigation, it’s always fun to see how much the place you live has grown (or not), and how certain highways have been rerouted (or the main roads in the pre-Interstate era). They’re high-resolution, well-detailed, and in convenient PDF format.
