Snippet: What Scares Me Away from Android Devices ☇

Shared on July 2, 2013

Nevermind the fragmentation, malware, and privacy issues—with my luck, I’d buy a model that seemed good, but would not be receiving official updates after just fifteen months of being on the market:

“We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”

The iPhone 4, a three-year-old product, will be getting iOS 7 later this year. Apple tends to support older devices as long as it can, although most people who got the iPhone 4 at launch have since moved on. Still, those that were late to the party, or want to get their money’s worth are not treated as second-class citizens.

Anyone else think we’ll be seeing this again in regards to the HTC First (the “Facebook phone”) in just a few short months?
